How-To
Are you new to blogs? This section will explain how-to use this blog and understand how-to find and read it’s content.
A blog is…
A blog is usually a personal collection of posts on varying things and usually fall under one topic (e.g. my cats, photo, my trip abroad, etc.). Sometimes blogs can be more professional and contain posts on news or provide information about agencies. Sometimes blogs are used by a community of people who all post to the same blog.
Anatomy of a post
Typically, a post is a paragraph of content, usually containing text and sometimes containing pictures or other types of media. Posts have a title that shortly describes the content in that post. The post also has a date stamp of when it was posted, and also who posted the post (particularly helpful when more than one person has access to post to the blog).
When a post is particularly interesting to the read, they can comment on your post by clicking on the comment link and entering your name and comment into the form. On this particular blog, you can click on Continue Reading and this link will take you to the comment form.
Where are the posts?
Posts on a blog can be viewed in one of four ways:
- The most current post is at the top of the Home page.
- The most recent posts are displayed on the Home page and can be read in ascending order by scrolling down.
- Posts are classified as categories and tags
- Every post has one or more categories (e.g. icwp, misc, etc.) and can have one or more tags (e.g. css, summary, fixed, etc.). In the sidebar of this blog, you can select a category or a tag and view posts that are classified with those labels.
- The calendar archives posts by month and then by year.
- Posts can be found by navigating the calendar. Dates that are highlighted are days that have posts available to view.
- Use the search box to search for a specific word or phrase.
- If a tag or category doesn’t exist for what you want to view and navigating the calendar is too cumbersome, using the search box is an easy way of finding the post you want to read.
